Leah Le and a Fashion Week Story

Posted in Events, Fashion News on September 24th, 2008 by Natasha Laws

It all began with a phone call one week before the kick off of Fashion Week, Leah Le had been spotted in “Little Black Book” and chosen to work with The Sebastian team on the Charlotte Ronson show and Rad Hourani. I am not going to lie there was great excitement. I begged for pictures, thinking sadly, none would come… but they did! So, here is a look of backstage at Fashion week.

A Night Fit For A Duchess

Posted in Events on September 22nd, 2008 by Natasha Laws

Makeup_PRatPartnersCrowdJames Cornwell_PRatPartnersJeremy_PRatPartnersKira Knightley’s new movie The Duchess hit Washington last week with a sneak peak at the Georgetown movie theaters. The night was a fun filled event. PR at Partners, Georgetown Cupcake, Urban Chic and the Georgetown Ritz Carlton teamed up for a fun filled event created by Allied PR. We offered free makeup refreshers and hair styling plus little goodie bags filled with Sebastian’s new luxe line and Phyto hair masks. There will be a lot of well conditioned ladies gracing the streets this week. Georgio from Mazza created quick makeup looks, while Jeremy (also from Mazza) smoothed and curled locks. James Cornwell also came out, he said to do hair but uh, he kept blowing the fuse with his blow dryer….
Confession on my part: I may have nibbled on a cup cake (yes, it was only one) wow… the icing has to be the best in the area, fantastic. Cupcakes_Georgetown

The weather was on our side for our spring/summer Fashion Preview and the release of our Urbana Collection. Two hundred plus stylists, style gurus, makeup artists and press gathered at Signature Theater in Shirlington to watch the show. We should also send a big thank you to the Curious Grape in Shirlington for a great selection of wines.

There are many thank yous for this show, that included a presentation by our Pretty Makeup Artists Jacqui Davis and the excellent James Cornwell (our local Session worker for DC), demonstrations and insights from our session workers - Sean Stredwick and Linh Nguyen and our Color Education Team. Robert Hughs who provided humor and MC services and none of it could have taken place without Richard Riffe who created the whole show and Bonnie Love who did everything else.
And we also need to thank this guy - “REG the Ledge” AKA Reg Laws our Founder, CEO and Boss. Clearly, I might not have job tomorrow with this picture. sure-ill-get-fired.jpg

So what is Fashion Fights Poverty? According to the Washington Post, it is “one of the largest fashion fundraisers in Washington, DC.” An organization who features national and international designers who employ ethical means and practices in their design and manufacturing processes to produce products that promote economic development and the betterment of a given community, FFP provides a forum for dialogue and awareness-building about how fashion, textiles, and design can alleviate poverty and empower communities.

They are hosting their 3rd-annual Ethical Fashion Show on October 26, 2007 at Carnegie Library (K Street, DC) from 5p-11p. PR at Partners and Pretty by PR Cosmetics have been asked to do all hair and makeup for the show! The catwalk will feature the world-famous beats of DJ Beverly Bond. Almost 50 models will showcase 9 designers, Aid to Artisans and clothing from generous fashion houses donated to their silent auction. Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Rickey Medlocke who will be modeling a collection by Nashville-based rock n’ roll designer Elizabeth Muir that was developed in Afghanistan with local artisans.
All guests will sip on vodka cocktails by Emperor’s Brand vodka and food by Dean & Delucca in lounges decorated with West Elm décor.
And most importantly, Edwarc Marc Chocolatier’s “The Chocolate Suite” will be located in the main showroom near the runway. Yum!!! The afterparty will be hosted at Lotus Lounge with a portion of ticket sales being donated to Aid to Artisans. This will be an event not to be missed.
